A truly handsome bean. Scented white with black paint-pot highlights. Medium green pods. Very attractive to pollinations. last to flower in the fava family so great to extent the season. Rediscovered in the monastic garden of the Bishops of Bath & Wells where it was thought to be 1st gifted to the clergy in the 12th century from visiting Pilgrims.
CULTURE – Can be sown directly 23cm (9”) apart in Sept/Oct or Feb/March (although benefits from cloche protection during harsher winter weather). Prefers a warm, sheltered, sunny location with plenty of well-rotted mature incorporated into the soil. Overall height: 90cm (3ft). Plants need to be kept moist for good pod set.
