Named after the area it was found growing in. Blue Lake is a tall handsome climbing French bean with plenty of stamina. Green stems, snow white blooms followed by the most tender long green pods. A popular ‘canning bean’ in the early 1900’s & one of the first truly stringless beans out there.  Extremely vigorous & does very well in the South West of England.

CULTURE – Sow in April/May in a heated greenhouse & plant out once all risk of frost has passed. Preferers a warm, sheltered, sunny location with plenty of well-rotted mature incorporated into the soil. 0ne plant per cane at 15cm (6”) intervals. Overall height: 2.5m+ (8ft).  Plants need to be kept moist for good bean set.
