Named after the town it was found growing in. Bridgwater is a tall handsome climbing French bean. Purple stems, mauve blooms followed by tender long green pods speckled with violet purple. Extremely vigorous & does very well in the South West of England. quite tolerant to wind but still prefers not to grown in a gale.
CULTURE – Sow in April/May in a heated greenhouse & plant out once all risk of frost has passed. Preferers a warm, sheltered, sunny location with plenty of well-rotted mature incorporated into the soil. 0ne plant per cane at 15cm (6”) intervals. Overall height: 2.5m+ (8ft). Plants need to be kept moist for good bean set.
