Once used as a purification herb in ancient rituals. Hyssop’s naturally bulky demeanour means that it makes as excellent pollinator friendly hedge in a knot garden (excellent alternative to box) as its dense spikes of dark blue-violet flowers are beloved by bees & butterflies. Its small lance shaped green leaves are highly aromatic & edible with a strong bitter minty flavour.
CULTURE –Sow indoors Mar-April or outside May-June. Germination us usually up to 21 days & earlier sowing using result in plants blooming in the same year. It is best to sow in seed modules or pots and place in a cold frame or unheated greenhouse until the you are ready to plant them in their final positions. Once established, hyssop is wonderfully drought tolerant making it perfect for busy gardeners.
