A very popular cultivar of yesteryear & could be found in all the Gardening publications back in 1880’s due to the “delightful vivid blooms of Vermillion & Gold”. It became popular with Kitchen Gardeners as Nasturtiums are the perfect companion plant from Brassicas, leaves / flowers are edible making them excellent in salads & seeds can be treated like capers. Compact so perfect for pots.
CULTURE – Sow April-June in seed trays undercover. Propagate at 18c+. When plants are large enough, transfer to individual pots & then when matured, transfers to the final location once all rick of frost has pasted. Do not excessively fertiliser as this will promote excessive foliage. Dead head regularly to encourage more flowers. Bumbles bees adore the vivid blooms & Cabbage White Butterfly larvae are quite partial to the leaves.
