MAINCROP. Also known as ‘Alderman’. This is a very tall variety which produces very heavy yields of fine quality peas with 9-10 dark green peas per pod. Thought to be a selection of ‘Duke of Albany’ Pea. The Admiral was once extremely popular in Victorian kitchen gardens, helped during the ‘Dig for Victory’ campaign & still is grown in English Allotments today. This pea has truly defied the ages.

Can be sown directly in Sept/Oct or Feb/March (although benefit from cloche protection during harsh winter weather).  Prefers a warm, sheltered, sunny location with plenty of well-rotted mature incorporated into the soil. Overall height: 2.5m+ (6-8ft).  Plants need to be kept moist for good pod set. Needs tall pea sticks.
