2ND EARLY. Named after the pea trail ground where it was first grown in Essex. This super productive, dwarf Stalwart of the 1940’s ‘Dig For Victory’ campaign ensured families with even the smallest garden never went without. It’s very compact growth habit & heavy crops still makes it a very popular pea nearly 100yrs later. So reliable is the pea that it was awarded RHS AGM 1993 – 68years after it was 1st launched.
Can be sown directly in Sept/Oct or Feb/March (although benefit from cloche protection during harsh winter weather). Prefers a warm, sheltered, sunny location with plenty of well-rotted mature incorporated into the soil. Overall height: 45cm (18”). Plants need to be kept moist for good pod set. Needs pea sticks.
Pea 'Kelvedon Wonder'
