Red Devon 1943. E.B. Champernowne, Buckland Monachorum, West Devon
A real gem in any spring border. bred literally a stone’s throw from this very historic packing shed on the beautiful hills in the Tavy Valley. For you lucky enough to visit the wonderfully historic National Trust property Buckland Abbey, you would have been tantalising close to the birth place of this cherished cultivar.
Its bold sulphur yellow petals twinned with a rich red cup really makes a statement & it soon becomes obvious why this narcissus was named after our local, equally beautifully coloured 'Ruby-Red' cattle. An extra bonus is that this is an extremely hardy cultivar. windswept, rain beaten hillsides are nothing to this variety, it just takes everything you through at it. A real gem hailing from this wonderous valley.
