Reputed to be directly from the 7th Earl of Edgcombe who donated these seeds to the Henry Doubleday Foundation on his return to England to claim his title. The Edgcombe family were once the largest landowners in these parts & historical family seats include Cotehele & Mount Edgcombe. This is an unusually hardy tomato which thrives in our cool wet, windy & English summers producing large, yellow fruits which taste faintly of mango. A true delight to grow.
CULTURE – Sow in April/May in a heated greenhouse & plant out once all risk of frost has passed. Preferers a warm, sheltered, sunny location with plenty of well-rotted mature incorporated into the soil. 0ne plant per cane or string at 60cm (24”) intervals. Overall height: 1.8m (6ft). Plants need to be kept moist for regular fruit set.
