Also Known as ‘Pera D’Abruzzo’ in its native Italy. We love the Austrailan name ‘Grandmas Throwing’ because the rich red ribbed fruits really are just the right size of a decent cricket ball & feels magnificent in your hands. Superbly flavourful, rich in lycopene & a perfect tomato for passata or salad as it has very few seeds. This Italian is best kept in the Glasshouse as it needs plenty of heat & full sun to be at its best.
CULTURE – Sow in April/May in a heated greenhouse & plant out once all risk of frost has passed. Preferers a warm, sheltered, sunny location with plenty of well-rotted mature incorporated into the soil. 0ne plant per cane or string at 60cm (24”) intervals. Overall height: 1.5m (5ft). Plants need to be kept moist for regular fruit set.
