One of the oldest Tomatoes still in cultivation where this delight probably originated on the eastern slopes of the Andes. The humble tomato was introduced to Europe by the Spanish Conquistador in the 1500’s. As a member of the Nightshade family tomatoes were looked upon with trepidation but by the 19th century thankfully it’s new title of ‘Love Apple’ had stuck. We have found Yellow Pear to be particularly excellent in salads.
CULTURE – Sow in April/May in a heated greenhouse & plant out once all risk of frost has passed. Preferers a warm, sheltered, sunny location with plenty of well-rotted mature incorporated into the soil. 0ne plant per cane or string at 60cm (24”) intervals. Overall height: 1.8m (6ft). Plants need to be kept moist for regular fruit set.
